As a fully qualified Psychotherapist and Counsellor, Marie can support you
in overcoming the blockages that keep you stuck in certain detrimental
states.
Such states may come in the form of:
Stress
Are you finding it difficult to focus or sleep? Do negative thoughts obsess you? Do
you feel overwhelmed or pressured? Do you want to feel empowered again and to
find solutions to life's challenges without feeling so helpless and burdened? There
are many ways to achieve this. One of the most effective and simple solutions is
that found in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR). Through awareness of
the breath you are brought into the present moment, putting the brakes on your
accelerating feelings which then allows you to think clearly and creatively to solve
your problems. Another is Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), which involves
tapping on acupressure points, and is also a very effective way to counteract the
emotionality of a memory or state. You can then access that part of your brain
which has evolved to help you calmly steer your way through the challenges that life
offers.
Anxiety
Are you always failing in your ideals of yourself, feeling not good enough or having
overwhelming fears about the future? Anxiety can be a most debilitating state, but
you can manage it through many different ways. Techniques such as EFT and
MBSR (see above) are very helpful. Becoming aware of the feelings that spiral you
into catastrophic thoughts and pessimism is most important in reversing these
attitudes. Deeper trauma in your past may also be preventing you from being in the
present. Dealing with this through such gentle therapies as Sandplay extends your
awareness into the internal dynamics at play in your life and allows you to transform
your inner world.
Depression
Depression has many aspects to it and many causes. Some depressive states
relate to negative thoughts about the past. Research shows that Cognitive
Behaviour Therapy (CBT) is one of the most effective ways of raising your
awareness about how your thoughts can deteriorate into these very negative states
and shows how you can intervene to deal with them.
Addictions
Do you use substance abuse as a way of coping with your emotions, stress or
anxiety? This brings only temporary relief and does not deal with the real causes,
thus creating an unhealthy dependency. Using a multi-faceted approach to handle
addictions you can learn more effective ways of integrating your emotions and
restore your choice over compulsion.
Grief or loss
Coping with grief and loss is part of the human condition, but sometimes you can be
overwhelmed and unable to integrate these emotions into your life even after many
years. Writing about the person you've lost can be very potent in healing that
relationship, as can Sandplay and active imagination processes.
Relationships
Many relationship difficulties may stem from unresolved issues in your family of
origin. You may project onto your partner those qualities you dislike in yourself, or
the perceptions and expectations of relationships may be very different from each
other. Couples therapy or individual therapy can clarify misunderstandings and the
confusion surrounding your most intimate relationships, enabling you to find the best
solutions for everyone concerned.
Each person is a unique being and the strategies used in therapy are designed to fit
his/her needs. What suits one personality type may not suit another, so a multi-
modal, integral approach offers more comprehensive support. Most importantly, by
being listened to intensively in a safe, confidential space you are enabled to explore
your own healing process at your own pace.
The brain has an amazing capacity to heal itself. It is a matter of becoming aware of
your resources to tap into those capacities. The following therapies represent some
of those many ways:
Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)
Contemporary psychodynamics
Archetypal therapy
Narrative therapy
Cognitive therapy
Sandplay
Active imagination
Mindfulness strategies
